The first, a Hamptons Seed Exchange, will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. During the event attendees will receive complimentary seeds, which they can trade with other participants. The afternoon will also feature several guest speakers, including Edwina VonGal, founder of The
Perfect Earth Project; Layton Guenther of
Quail Hill Farm; Mary Woltz of Bee's Needs; Judiann Carmack, Co-Founder of
Edible School Gardens; East Hampton Town Shellfish Hatchery representatives, and Brian Halweil of
Edible East End who will moderate a panel discussion.
Additionally, Hailey London of Project MOST will lead
The Sunflower: From Seed, To Plate, To Plant, a workshop for children that will focus on the life cycle and role of the sunflower seed. Little ones will have the chance to
harvest seeds from dry sunflower heads and then plant their own individual sunflower seed pot, which they can take home. They will also learn how to make sunflower nut butter and get to taste the delicious final result.
Once the Seed Exchange has wrapped up, culinary experts Adam Kelinson and Jeff Purrazzi will present a Chef's Benefit Dinner. The gathering, which will commence at 6:30 p.m., will highlight bounty donated by local farmers and fisherman.
"Project MOST is thrilled to be working with Executive Chefs Adam Kelinson and Jeff Purrazzi on the Seed Exchange and Chef's Benefit Dinner to raise money for the Project MOST after school enrichment program that serves 350 students and their families every day after school," noted Susan Hanley, Project MOST Development Director. "Adam and Jeff are truly an inspiration and a great example of how local businesses can support the non profit community. We are very grateful for their support!"
The family style, 6-course dinner will boast Montauk Oyster with Charred Pumpkin Seed Mignonette; Fall Ferments, Cedar Cured Charcuterie, Smoked Fish and Preserves; Wood Fired Pizza and Greens; Local Heritage Pig and Three Sisters (Polenta, Magic Beans, Squash); and for dessert Apples and Woodland Tea & Coffee. The featured meals were made possible courtesy of donated items from Quail Hill Farm,
Balsam Farms,
Open Minded Organics, Montauk Scallop Company,
Montauk Shellfish Company, Marder Family Farms, and Green Thumb Organics.
