Ballets With A Twist Bringing "Cocktail Hour: The Show" To The Hamptons

Olivia Rutigliano

Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center (WHBPAC) will welcome Cocktail Hour: The Show on Saturday, August 25 at 8 p.m.

Manhattan-based dance company Ballets with a Twist transforms the Mai Tai, Martini, Manhattan and more cocktails from the menu to the stage through dance, design and music.

The company's own B-Twist Orchestra, a collection of internationally acclaimed musicians who have performed on The Today Show and Good Morning America as well as at the Kennedy Center Honors, presidential inaugurations, and the Grammys will join the performance.

Created by director and choreographer Marilyn Klaus, the show takes the classic glamour of Old Hollywood and infuses pop for a high style show with timeless American spirit.

Klaus and her company were applauded for "blasting the boundaries between high art and entertainment" by The Huffington Post.

Klaus formed the group with Grammy-nominated composer Stephen Gaboury and costume designer Catherine Zehr and has appeared nationally in venues such as Cleveland's Playhouse Square and New York City's Beacon Theatre, Lincoln Center and the Tribeca Film Festival.

Gaboury has had compositions performed by Cyndi Lauper, Patti Labelle, Norah Jones, and Sarah McLachlan as well as having been featured in awarding winning films like Boyhood and American Beauty.

Zehr has designed not only for her own label but for many other American Fashion houses after studying art and design at Washington University and FIT. The presentation "Designing Costumes for Ballets with a Twist" was part of The Museum at FIT's Fashion Culture series.

Program highlights include Soiree, a lady in rose, young lovers and two celestial souls dancing through a night; Manhattan, a big city evening featuring a young socialite and a jazz trumpet; and Rum Runner, a spicy night through Cuba, Puerto Rico and Brazil.

In the lobby, cocktails and mocktails will be served to accompany the show.

General admission tickets are $55 to $70.

WHBPAC is located at 76 Main Street in Westhampton Beach. For tickets, or more information, visit whbpac.org or call 631-288-1500.
