Greenport Express Hoping To Get On The Right Track During Monte Carlo Night Benefit

Nicole Barylski

The Greenport Express Miniature Train fundraising effort is regaining steam thanks to a Monte Carlo Night hosted by AIA Peconic that will support the Greenport Rotary Club and Village of Greenport's attempt to get the beloved adventure chugging along again.

"AIA Peconic is proud to be partnering with the Greenport Rotary Club and support their efforts in building the Greenport Express Miniature Train," Joe Pagac, AIA Peconic Treasurer, shared. "Monte Carlo Night at Kontokosta Winery in Greenport will bring together our collective members, building tradespeople, and the general public for a fun night of casino themed games, prizes, local food, and drink."

Monte Carlo Night will take place at Kontokosta Winery on Friday, November 2 from 6 to 10 p.m. In addition to testing their luck, attendees can support the Train through the silent auction and raffle, which will boast exciting prizes like SONANCE Mariner 86 Outdoor Speakers, a WOLF Gourmet Blender, DJI Phantom 3 Standard Quadcopter Drone with 2.7K HD Video Camera, Weems & Plath Trident Time & Tide Clock, The Original Spikeball Kit, a one hour training session with Asha Gallacher of North Fork School for Dogs, collagen facial from Daiva Pagac Aesthetics, Hampton Coffee Company gift basket, gift certificates from Di Angela Leather, Simply Beautiful Boutiquem Tea & Tchotchkes, Kontokosta Winery, Claudio's Restaurant, American Beech Restaurant, and other East End eateries, and more.

"Last year, we held a similar event to support the rebuilding of the Sag Harbor Cinema and we are delighted to bring our community outreach efforts to the North Fork with this benefit for the Greenport Express Miniature Train," Pagac added.

The miniature train operated in Greenport for 27 years, however in 2012 the train stopped running on private property. The Rotary Club of Greenport, in partnership with the Village of Greenport, is hoping to get back on track and once again offer this exciting locomotive journey to little ones who reside in the area and those that visit Greenport.

The Village and Rotary Club set out to raise $250,000 in support of the miniature trains, track construction, and a new train station on Village owned property. Funding is being used towards acquiring a miniature 16" gauge train (circa 1954) with an engine and three passenger cars that accommodates up to 36 children, building a quarter mile track that would travel through the woods near Moore's Lane on land provided by the Village, and building a facility that includes a passenger area, public restrooms, and a maintenance area for the train. The Greenport Rotary Club has already purchased the engine and passenger cars. The next phase will be to begin laying the track, and then construction of the train station will commence.

Tickets to Monte Carlo Night start at $100.

For those unable to make it to the fundraiser, there is a GoFundMe page you can donate to: www.gofundme.com.
