Scottish novelist Walter Scott noted, "True love is the gift which God has given to man[kind] alone beneath the heaven." Gurney's Inn Resort and Spa
is not only giving lovers the opportunity to renew their vows of love beneath a heavenly sky, but also in view of one of the Hamptons' most beautiful ocean vistas, no matter their sexual persuasion or non-traditional concept of marriage.
This is the 14th year that Gurney's celebrates love and marriage with their annual "Renew Your Vows" Valentine's Day event. However, to their credit, Gurney's has enhanced the event this year to include couples of all persuasions, whether married in the traditional sense or in committed relationships, including same-sex marriages consummated in the nine states that, along with the District of Columbia, recognize same-sex marriage. The Honorable James Ketchum, retired East Hampton Town Judge, has volunteered his time for this event, but does request a $10 donation to the Montauk Food Pantry
for his services. Good for you Judge Jim!

This may very well be the most inclusive celebration of St. Valentine's Day and the joy of love to be found anywhere in the United States. Governor Andrew Cuomo
, who strongly supported and signed the legislation that made same-sex marriage legal in New York State, has been invited to Gurney's "Renew Your Vows" annual event and may be in attendance in this seminal year of inclusion.
Gurney's Inn Resort and Spa is a major and historic New York hospitality venue dating back to 1926. Gurney's is not only willing to embrace the Governor's same-sex marriage legislation, Gurney's is also the rare independent small business acknowledging and embracing the reality of both non-traditional, common law type relationships and gay marriage.
To that end, starting January 21st you will see a billboard
towering over the Long Island Expressway at the Van Dam Street exit. Its headline is, appropriately, "Gurney's is for Lovers!" Take a picture of it and post it on Gurney's Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/gurneysinn and you and a wife, husband, partner or lover might win an overnight Ocean View room stay this Valentine's Day at Gurneys, including a candlelight Valentine's dinner for two overlooking the ocean featuring items such as Heart Shaped Ravioli, Sweet and Sexy Oysters, Surf and Turf
, a Passion Fruit Mousse in a Chocolate Tuile and all kinds of other sinful and luscious creations.
Furthermore and not unexpected, Gurney's is Same-Sex Marriage friendly. According to Paul Monte
, General Manager and the patriarch of this three-generation venerable Montauk landmark, "Our beautiful oceanfront venue has hosted several same-sex ceremonies and celebrations over the years. We are committed to creating a singular, extraordinary wedding experience for all. Love is in the eye of the beholder! Love is what makes the world go round. Gurney's commitment is to create a day of celebration of that love that is timeless, unforgettable and, hopefully, set against a perfect sunset."
Married or not, straight or gay, just be in love! LOVE, the only criteria required to celebrate the holiday devoted to it, Valentine's Day, at Gurney's Inn Resort and Spa.
