The Springs Improvement Society (SIS) has combed through its expansive collection of posters going back over 40 years, and has curated a special exhibition that will be presented during its annual Poster Show & Sale. The alluring artwork will be on display at Ashawagh Hall
for two days only: Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12.
"These are historic posters by some of America's greatest artists," shared Beth Meredith. The works are "bold, colorful, abstract and representational."
Vintage posters from Willem de Kooning
, Elaine de Kooning
, Lee Krasner
, Jackson Pollock
, Ray Parker
, John Opper, Costantino Nivola, Perl Fine, Claus Hoie
, John Little, James Brooks
, Ibram Lassaw
, Miriam Schapiro, Herman Cherry, Ilya Bolotowsky, and more will be featured, while contemporary posters by David Slater, Abby Abrams, and Gabriele Raacke
will also be showcased.
Unsigned poster will be available for purchase for just $20, so if you're ready to start your holiday shopping and know someone who would appreciate artwork with a nod to the area, make sure to stop by.
In addition to the exceptional posters, t-shirts, mugs, and caps that pay homage to Springs and books will also be on sale. So if you're in need of a gift for someone who's particularly fond of the area, or just want to support Springs Improvement Society, pick up an "I (HEART) SPRINGS" or "I (HEART) THE SPRINGS" bumper sticker. "Finally, a place to buy colorful new SPRINGS t-shirts," noted Loring Bolger.
On Veterans Day (Saturday, November 11), SIS will be serving up donuts donated by The Springs General Store
and coffee. Veterans will enjoy the tasty treat for free and the beloved breakfast option will be available to the public for a modest charge.
All proceeds from the weekend event will support the Springs Improvement Society and Ashawagh Hall. "The funds raised by SIS go to maintaining and repairing Ashawagh Hall," President Ed Michels explained. "We've been doing that since 1909."

Springs Improvement Society is also looking for new members. You can join for a yearly fee of $25, which will be applied to 2018.
Additionally, the Springs Fire Department (179 Fort Pond Boulevard, East Hampton) is honoring veterans this weekend. During the Department's weekly Sunday pancake breakfast, which is open to all, veterans will eat for free. The delicious event will take place from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and admission is $8, with proceeds donated to Team DMK (Ex-Chief David M. King, who passed away earlier this year from acute lymphoblastic leukemia) for a cure - which has a fundraising goal of $100,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The pancake breakfasts will continue through Sunday, November 19.
The Springs Improvement Society's Poster Show & Sale will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 11 and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 12.
