On Saturday, January 28th, round up your little ones and bring them to The Watermill Center
for the Center's first Family Day of 2017. From 1 to 4 p.m., attendees will get their creative juices flowing as they participate in the afternoon's exciting workshops, hosted by Artists-in-Residence Kate Eberstadt, Brune Charvin, and Khesrau Behroz of The Hutto Project, as well as Watermill Alum, Makram Hamdan.
"We've planned our mid-winter Family Day for parents and children to have a hands-on creative immersion in The Watermill Center experience," shared Andrea Cote
, Education Program Coordinator at The Watermill Center. "Kids and adults will be making music, moving and dancing together learning from professional and international Artists-in-Residence."
The Hutto Project, a collaboration between filmmaker Brune Charvin, writer Khesrau Behroz and composer Kate Eberstadt, brought music and performance education to children in refugee camps in Berlin. The trio helped 25 students from countries such as Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq
, Iran, Palestine, and Moldova to create original choral and performance pieces. During The Watermill Center's Family Day, these artists will replicate the same programs they did in Berlin, as well as share stories from their time in Berlin.
Makram Hamdan, a dancer and choreographer, has worked with The Watermill Center Founder Robert Wilson
for over 20 years. In 2007, Hamdan introduced his new company, Makram Hamdan Dance Company, during an open rehearsal at the Center, and he has continued his partnership with the Center by lending his expertise as a teaching artist in both theatre and movement. Family Day attendees will join Hamdan for a workshop in movement discovery that explores how to use language as a performative impulse
to produce movement. The workshop is open to all skill levels.
Family Day is open to children between 7-years-old and 12-years-old, who must be accompanied by at least one adult. Registration is required and space is limited.
The Watermill Center is located at 39 Watermill Towd Road in Water Mill. For more information, call 631-726-4628 or visit www.watermillcenter.org.
