On Monday, April 4th, the
Wellness Foundation is hosting a Plant-based Potluck Dinner at the
Hampton Library that is open to the East End community.
Along with noshing on a variety of heart-healthy whole foods and plant-based dishes, the evening will feature a food demo and tasting with
Susan Blacklocke, who studied at The Academy for Nutritional Healing. Blacklocke leads weekly cooking sessions with The Special Explorers for adults with intellectual disabilities.
"Susan will demonstrate the simple preparation of Cardamom Currant Sunflower Cheese while discussing the nutrition involved in this delicious dish," explained Maude Muto of the Wellness Foundation. "Samples will be served on gluten free pumpkin toast."
The talented culinary star immensely enjoys sharing her experiences in the kitchen with others and when creating a dish, she has a high awareness of food allergies and environmental hazards. Susan believes that a person's well-being is an individual exploration, during which one must figure out their own dietary needs.
Registration isn't necessary for the complimentary potluck which begins at 6 p.m., but attendees are asked to come with a dish to share, as well as a copy of their recipe. Guests must bring a dish that does not contain animal products.
The Wellness Foundation was founded by Doug Mercer in 2005, who was inspired to start the nonprofit after learning about the students at East Hampton Middle School, who were refusing to eat unhealthy school lunch options. The goal of the Wellness Foundation is to introduce vital lifestyle changes, especially in regards to healthy eating, to the community with the hopes of becoming a model of community wellness.
