- To enable the public to learn more about the broad range of health care programs provided by Suffolk County and the Towns of East Hampton and Southampton, the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons
is hosting a free public forum on "Health and Human Services in the Hamptons" on Monday, June 8, at 7 p.m. at the Southampton Town Senior Center, 25 Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays.
Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. Humayun Chaudhry, frequently in the news these days because of H1N1 influenza concerns, will speak about the many divisions of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, which oversees public health (communicable diseases, food establishments, mosquito control), environmental and water quality, primary and preventive care for adults and children, health education, adult day care, services for children with special needs, and emergency medical services.
Also serving on the panel are William Jones, the Town of Southampton's director of human services, and Edna Steck, East Hampton Town's director of human services. They will cover and answer questions about the many town services provided for seniors, youth and other groups.
The program will be taped and later aired by Southampton Town's SEA-TV on public access Channel 22. For those not living in Southampton Town, the program will be available through their website at www.town.southampton.ny.us.
