On Saturday, October 25, 2014, the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation
is holding the 17th Annual Run for the Ridley. The 5K will support the Foundation's efforts to rescue, care for, and rehabilitate sea turtles that are currently at their facility, and also those in need of assistance during the upcoming winter months.
The race is open to runners and joggers of all ages. The run starts at 10 a.m. on Main Street in Riverhead, goes through a quiet residential neighborhood and finishes on McDermott Avenue. Island Timing will time the 5K. Check-in is at the easternmost end of Municipal Parking Lot adjacent to Peconic River from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required.
The Riverhead Foundation rescues and rehabilitates dolphins, porpoises, seals, sea turtles and whales. They respond to nearly 250 animals each year. They are also holding their annual free Cold Stun Sea Turtle lecture series throughout Long Island to educate the public about how they can assist saving sea turtle.
