Quogue Wildlife Refuge
will be illuminated for a very special reason, the 5th annual Light the Night Winter Trail Walk, on Saturday, January 19.
Taking place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., strollers will enjoy the wonder of the East End nature preserve at night, when the Refuge's forest trails will be gleaming especially for the event.
"The Light the Night is really meant to be a peaceful, self-guided walk through a beautiful forest that is gently lit up, and it looks a bit magical," Marisa Nelson
, Quogue Wildlife Refuge Assistant Director, relayed.
As it is expected to be a bit brisk on Saturday, walkers can head to the Nature Center before or after their traverse to warm up near the cozy fireplace with some hot cocoa and cookies.
"It is something different to do on a cold January night," Nelson added. "It was a big hit last year."
Admission to Light the Night is $10 and $5 for children 12-years-old and under. Attendees should check in inside the Nature Center. Reservations are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.
Founded in 1934, the Quogue Wildlife Refuge is a 300 acre non-profit nature preserve that is open 365 days a year. Home to an array of wildlife, refuge guests can explore miles of trails where they will find a myriad of habitats, including forests and ponds, as well as the ecologically rare Dwarf Pines in the Pine Barrens.
Quogue Wildlife Refuge is located at 3 Old Country Road in Quogue. For more information, call 631-653-4771 or visit quoguewildliferefuge.org.
