The East Hampton Housing Authority will be receiving a $7 million Unified Funding award from the NYS Homes & Community Renewal to be used for the Authority's affordable housing project at 531 Montauk Highway in Amagansett.
"I am thrilled that the East Hampton Housing Authority is getting the support it needs to build this affordable housing project in Amagansett," said Assemblyman Fred Thiele
, Jr. "The availability of affordable housing opportunities for moderate income and working class residents is in short supply, and the adverse impacts from this shortage of housing opportunities must be addressed."
The funding is part of over $200 million that the state has awarded towards building or preserving more than 2,800 affordable apartments in New York's 10 regions. Overall, $25.6 million has been allotted to four affordable housing developments on Long Island - resulting in 239 new affordable homes.
The Amagansett project will encompass 37 homes that will house families and individuals whose incomes vary from very low to moderate. The plan includes 12 one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments, as well as one four-bedroom unit.
"We're delighted that the Governor and the Commissioner of Homes & Community Renewal recognize the need for workforce housing here," added Catherine Casey, Executive Director of the East Hampton Housing Authority. "Assemblyman Thiele's support was a huge help, and we're ready to move forward with a project that we're certain will serve this community well."
The affordable housing project in Amagansett will also include a two-story common house with a meeting space, kitchenette, a computer room and laundry facilities.
"It's what we need, when we need it," Casey concluded.
