Women And Whaling: A Multimedia Presentation By Martha Pichey

Friday, June 15, 2018

6:00 pm to 7:15 pm

Playwright & former journalist Martha Pichey tells the tales of a few brave women who defied convention and went to sea. Lizzie Edwards was a whaling captainís wife from Sag Harbor, Emma Armstrong a young navigator who saved her fatherís ship from disaster, and the intrepid George Leonard harbored a secret that took months for fellow whalers to uncover. There will be a reading of an excerpt from her new play, Drowning on Dry Land, set in New Bedford in 1871. Marthaís first play, Ashes & Ink, will be produced by womenís theater company Noraís Playhouse in 2019.
