Our Fabulous Variety Show (OFVS) is well known for their exuberant and memorable performances. They’re back at it again with their 24th production, TAP: An Evening of Rhythm, a celebration of the history and art of tap dance. This performance will take place on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. The show aims to introduce people to the incredible world of tap – from its historical roots to its many offshoots – in the hopes of continuing to spread the love and appreciation of this wonderful artistic dance style.
“This show means so much to me, it’s been a passion project for 5 years now and I’m so grateful for everything it has brought to me and my students,” OFVS co-director, co-producer, and co-founder Anita Boyer noted. “Being able to work to create and commemorate the history of tap and to instill a proper respect to all who see and participate in the show is incredible.”
The show first began in April 2015 as a JDT Lab at Guild Hall by Anita Boyer followed by the second annual show in April 2016 at the Southampton Cultural Center and the Avram Theater at Stony Brook Southampton, and the third and fourth productions in May 2017 & 2018 at The John Drew Theater at Guild Hall. This fifth annual production will be back at Guild Hall featuring professional tap dancers, Aaron Tolson and Anita Boyer. The show will also present Tolson’s tap dance company, Speaking in Taps, as well as the dancehampton Tap Army and OFVS dancers directed by Boyer.
“Having my teacher Aaron Tolson be a part of the show and bringing his company out is such a beautiful collaboration! ” Boyer added. “It keeps me and my students inspired and we absolutely love everything this show does!”
An Evening of Rhythm is directed and choreographed by Boyer and OFVS co-director, co-producer, and co-founder Kasia Klimiuk, with additional choreography by Colleen Edwards. The show will feature local talent from Manhattan to Montauk, from ages twelve to eighty-two, presenting an eclectic evening of dance. You can expect to hear long-time favorite songs like Shirley Temple, Bill Bojangles Robinson’s Stair Dance, Broadway showstoppers, jazz funk, modern rhythm and classic standards.
Additionally, OFVS will present OFVS Idol on Wednesday, May 15 at Guild Hall at 7:30 p.m. and its Vaudeville Cabaret featuring RaffaShow on Saturday, May 18 at 9 p.m.
