Southampton Arts Center (SAC) will join forces with The Watermill Center to present an open rehearsal of Negra! Anger! with Colombian choreographer Álvaro Restrepo and company at SAC on Sunday, September 11th at 4 p.m.
“Working with partners to offer a diverse lineup of programs is what makes Southampton Arts Center so special and collaborating with The Watermill Center to bring this unique artistic event to Southampton Village is a dream come true,” remarked Director of Programs, Amy Kirwin.
This free event featuring Restrepo is bound to draw a lot of attention from community members. Restrepo is a renowned choreographer and dancer, as well as the founder of El Colegio Del Cuerpo. This performance is part of Restrepo’s residency at The Watermill Center and is based on a massive ceremony the artist created in 2010 in his native country to honor the victims of internal displacement.
Negra! Anger! emerges from a performance by El Colegio del Cuerpo created for a special event for the District Anti-Racism Observatory (ODAR). Nina Simone composed all the music that will be heard throughout the performance.
El Colegio del Cuerpo was established in 1997 in Cartagena de Indias by dancers, choreographers, and pedagogues Álvaro Restrepo and Marie France Delieuvin from France. The group has contributed to the human development of roughly 8,300 children through their various programs.
