Get ready for a night of live opera in the Hamptons during a special one-night-only performance. Giuseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata” will take center stage at the Bay Street Theater and Sag Harbor Center for the Arts on Saturday, May 9th at 8 p.m. The show will consist of a combination of singing and narration, based on Alexandre Dumas’ “La Dame Aux Camélia.”
The live performance, which will run for approximately 90 minutes, will highlight a story of love and loss between the lovely Violetta Valery and her partner, Alfredo. The tragic love story details their relationship and Alfredo’s father, Germont’s opposition to their love.
Violetta will be played by Ashley Bell, a long-time performer and Yale University graduate who has performed throughout the United States, Italy, Spain, France and Russia. Her partner Alfredo will be played by David Guzman, a Colombian tenor praised for his musicianship and tone of voice. Guzman made his Carnegie Hall solo debut in “Misa Azteca.” Michael Nansel will play his father, Germont. The esteemed actor and opera singer has a voice which is described as “rich” with “great vocal and emotional power.”
Anton Armendariz Diaz, artistic director of the Spanish opera company, La Rioja Lirica, will narrate the production. Diaz will also serve as stage director. Divaria Productions, in association with Bay Street, is producing “La Traviata.”
Tickets range from $25 to $50.
