Students of the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center’s Nancy & Frederick DeMatteis Arts Education Program will show off their theatrical talent during a performance of the classic “Oklahoma!” on Friday, January 31, and Saturday, February 1, at 7:00 p.m.
The Rodgers & Hammerstein musical was the duo’s first collaboration. The show set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre which are still being used to this day. Based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play, “Green Grow the Lilacs,” the musical is set just after the turn of the century in a Western Indian Territory. It tells the story of an attractive cowboy, Curley, and a winsome farm girl, Laurey. Their road to bliss may not be the smoothest but for the stubborn love birds the journey is well worth the trouble.
