“Heroes,” a comedic look at three lively World War I veterans who are confined to a retirement home, will kick off the New Year at Hampton Theatre Company (HTC). The second play of HTC’s 2013-2014 season will begin on Thursday, January 9, and run through Sunday, January 26.
The production starring HTC veterans George Loizides, Cyrus Newitt and Tom Gustin is translated from the French and adapted by Tom Stoppard from “The Wind in the Poplars” (“Le Vent de Peupliers”) by Gérald Sibleyras. During its debut in Paris, the play was nominated four Molière nominations and its London run earned the 2006 Olivier Award for best new comedy.
Set in France in 1959, the comedy explores the life journey of the three friends, often through witty banter. The trio yearns to regain their freedom, despite their age and other obvious obstacles.
Showtimes are Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. The HTC is once again offering special dinner and theater packages in collaboration with the Southampton, Westhampton Beach, Hampton Bays and Quogue libraries.
