Hamptons International Film Festival Partners With Guild Hall For New "Now Showing" Series

The final Now Showing of 2017 features Loving Vincent.

The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) is expanding its offerings with the launch of Now Showing. The new series, which is being presented with Guild Hall, will highlight "acclaimed art house, independent, and world cinema" that is currently in theaters, but not scheduled to screen on the East End. Films can be seen at Guild Hall's John Drew Theater on select Saturday evenings.

"Our audience has asked us for years to continue to program films after the annual film festival, and we are thrilled to make this dream a reality," explained HIFF Executive Director Anne Chaisson.

Now Showing will debut on Saturday, December 16 with Agnés Varda's Faces Places. The documentary captures a road trip the filmmaker takes through rural France with photographer and muralist JR, as the duo explores portraits and the stories behind them. Faces Places was an official selection of the Cannes and New York Film Festivals.

Agnés Varda's Faces Places kicks off the screenings.

The series will continue on Saturday, December 23 with Ruben Östlund's The Square. The 2017 Cannes Palme d'Or winner follows a Stockholm museum curator whose desire to raise the profile of the museum's new exhibition results in disaster. The film, which screened at HIFF 2017, stars Claes Bang, Elisabeth Moss, Dominic West, and Terry Notary.

The final Now Showing of 2017 will take place on Saturday, December 30, and feature Loving Vincent, the first fully oil-painted feature film. The 2017 biographical and animated painted drama covers the life and death of Vincent van Gogh. Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman wrote and directed the film, which includes 65,000 painted frames that were created by a team of 115 painters using the same technique as Van Gogh.

"We live in a film-savvy community, but many of the best new releases never make it to our theaters," said Andrea Grover, Executive Director of Guild Hall. "We are thrilled to work with our longtime partners HIFF to fill this void."

Elisabeth Moss stars in The Square.

"We are kicking off this series with some of the most artistic and daring films this year, which we know will equally challenge and delight," Chaisson added.

Tickets to Now Showing are $15 for general admission and $12 for HIFF and Guild Hall members.

Guild Hall is located at 158 Main Street in East Hampton. For more information, visit hamptonsfilmfest.org. For tickets, visit www.guildhall.org.
