"The East Coast community of surfers, artists, and everyone who appreciates surfing is building a strong voice and point of view that is being appreciated not only by the California surf scene but a worldwide audience that is waking up to what we have here, which is truly unique," said Michael Halsband.

On Friday, August 14th, the Parrish Art Museum will pay tribute to the local surfing community during Atlantic Vibrations: Surf Movie Night, Vol. 3, an outdoor screening of short, noncommercial surf films. The evening will kickoff with a live set from DJ TWILO at 7 p.m., followed by the screening at 8 p.m. Michael Halsband, photographer/filmmaker, and Chris Gentile, surfer, artist, and founder of Pilgrim Surf + Supply, selected the featured shorts, which were created by filmmakers from New York State.

"This year's selection of movies is a beautiful example of the diversity of views that are helping to express the New York surf experience," noted Halsband.

Founded as an outlet to promote both emerging and established filmmakers, Atlantic Vibrations showcases the timeless link between art, film, and surfing. This year's films, all under 15 minutes, range in genre from experimental to documentary. Featured filmmakers will include Bartholomew Schwarz (This is the End), Ingrid Silva (Surf Journal, Day 17256), Jerstin Crosby (MM Moon Beach), Ben Potter (Drink One), James Katsipis (Travel Ban), Sean Martin (Artisanal Lifestyle: Mikey DeTemple), Calvin Knowlton (Top Gun), Nate Best (Irene), Bruce AG Bailey (Sun Sessions, Morocco), Brendan Regan (1240 11976), and Jsun Laliberte (Exercise in Futility).

"The concept of a short surf film festival was developed in 2013 after a discussion with Mike Solomon, an artist and surfer, about the connections between art and surfing," said Andrea Grover, Century Arts Foundation Curator of Special Projects at the Parrish. "Every year, the submitted work gets stronger with innovative approaches to storytelling, experimental camera work, and diversity in vision and approach."

Admission is $10, but free for members, children, and students.

Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill. For more information, call 631-283-2118 or visit parrishart.org.
