The HBO hit series “Girls” starring Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet, has been filming for their upcoming third season in the North Fork town of Greenport. I recently caught up with the show’s Executive Producer, Ilene S. Landress to find out how they are enjoying the area as well as what to expect from season 3 of Girls.
Q: What are you doing in Greenport today?
A: We are filming a couple scenes for the 3rd season of “Girls”. We came to Greenport because Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, one of our executive producers, came here last summer for fun to stay at our director Jesse Peretz’s house and they said “hey lets do a beach episode,” so this year they wrote a beach episode and if you write it, here we are.
Q: Are you enjoying it here so far?
A: Greenport is lovely, the whole area of the North Fork is lovely, the weather not so much. We’ve been sort of getting killed by rain, but other than that it’s been lovely. When you wake up and look outside and it’s a day like today you say, “wow this is amazing,” and then I look at the weather report and somewhere between 12 and 2 the sky is gonna burst open and I have to say like, yesterday we got rained on but then it was a really beautiful sunset.
Q: Have you found any favorite restaurants out here yet?
A: The truth is we haven’t had much time to eat. We like Aldo’s coffee. We’ve been shooting split calls which is, we start late morning and we shoot until late at night and most of the restaurants are closed by the time we’re done. Last night a couple of us went over to Blue Canoe and that was good. A couple of people have been to Noah’s. We have heard the North Fork Table & Inn is supposed to be fantastic, except we haven’t gotten there.
Q: Do you have any plans on heading over to the Hamptons?
A: Well I did last weekend. I have a house in Bridgehampton. We took the ferry, it was great. That was the best thing, coming to work on the ferry. Yesterday it was great. We hit the ferry and drove right on, it took maybe 40 minutes. It’s a really nice way to come to work in the morning.
Q: What can we expect from season 3 of “Girls”?
A: They go to a beach house for the weekend. I don’t want to give away any of the spoilers. I’m the non-writing producer so I don’t want to give away any spoilers. It’s kind of nice to get away. We do a little traveling in the first episode and the second episode. A little bit of a road trip. We haven’t been in the studio much at all so we’re sort of more out and about… Let’s put it this way, we’ve gotten out of the five Burroughs of New York City.
