Hands-on household activities that both the young and old participated in, such as candle making, carving, beekeeping, blacksmithing and basketry, was customary in historical life. This year's Harvest Day Fair on Saturday, September 27, 2014 will go back in time to the 19th century to showcase Hamptons history at Southampton Historical Museum's Rogers Mansion.
The annual event held during Southampton SeptemberFest will reenact historical highlights as trade and craft people will dress in costume and demonstrate various activities. Civil War re-enactors will also appear, making a traditional camp, shooting rifles and showcasing war parading.
The highlight of the day is expected to be the recreating of the "Whaling Captain Wedding," featuring the gold rush frontrunner and whaling captain George White, and his marriage to Elizabeth Fordam in 1850. The performance will include a ceremony and reception put together by Our Fabulous Variety Show and music performed by the five piece string ensemble, Feinberg Brothers.
The Harvest Day Fair begins at 11 a.m. and admission is free.
