Sylvester Manor Educational Farm is kicking off the New Year with the launch of their 2019 concert season – featuring the return of The Slocan Ramblers. The post-holiday Shelter Island tradition will take place on Saturday, January 19 at the Shelter Island School Auditorium. Doors will open at 7 p.m., with the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m.
“Sylvester Manor is excited to kick off our 2019 Concert Series with The Slocan Ramblers,” Alice Clark, Sylvester Manor Educational Farm Events Planner, relayed. “This up and coming Canadian contemporary bluegrass band plays with authority and passion, respecting musical roots while pushing the envelope.”
Sylvester Manor first welcomed one of Canada’s top contemporary bluegrass bands in late April 2017 for two jam packed shows at the Manor Music Rooms that left the East End wanting more. Since then, the band – which features mandolinist Adrian Gross, banjoist Frank Evans, guitarist Darryl Poulsen and Alistair Whitehead on double bass – signed with Nashville’s KCA Artists, and embarked on a global tour that includes a twenty-date UK stint this month.
The Slocan Ramblers were named the Edmonton Folk Fest Emerging Artist Award in 2015 and nominated for the Canadian Folk Music Awards 2016 Traditional Album of the Year.
The band dropped their third album, Queen City Jubilee, in June of 2018, which Songlines Magazine (UK) lauded, “contemporary bluegrass at its very best…this album could be the one that propels them to the forefront of the acoustic roots scene.” Bluegrass Unlimited noted, “If you’ve grown tired of the same old sounds, here’s a band that reinvents a genre.”
“Get ready for a dynamic live show, impeccable musicianship, and toe-tapping fun!” Clark added.
Tickets to Sylvester Manor’s Winter Concert range from $25 to $40.
The Shelter Island-based Sylvester Manor is dedicated “to preserving, cultivating and sharing the historic Sylvester Manor to ensure that food and art remain connected to community and the land.”
