As per usual, Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor is heating up the start of the year with the return of the popular Fireside Sessions with Nancy Atlas. Headlined by the local favorite, every Saturday throughout January Atlas will be joined by a special guest or two.
The series will launch on January 5 with Henry Haid, who starred as the “Piano Man” Billy Joel in the hit Broadway show Movin’ Out, and saxophonist George Cortez. January 12 will welcome Randi Fishenfeld, violinist for The Wildfire Band, while on January 19 it’s “Rockabilly Madness: A night of Sugary Sweet” with Eugene Chrysler on stand-up bass and another local hero, Gene Casey. Finally, on January 26, the series will conclude with a Choir Night with Danny Keane, Jonny Rosch and the Fireside Choir.
“We are pleased to bring back the Fireside Sessions with Nancy Atlas again this year,” shared Tracy Mitchell, Executive Director of Bay Street Theater.
After studying at Cambridge University in England and Richmond College in London and Florence, Atlas graduated college and instead of following a path to become an advertising executive, she purchased a guitar for 60 quid on Portabello Road in London and launched her musical career.
The musician, who “grew up with gypsy blood in Commack”, has been a fixture on the East End music scene along with her band, The Nancy Atlas Project – which includes Johnny Blood, Brett King, Neal Surreal and Richard Rosch, for many, many years. They’ve opened for or followed several notable names, including Bon Jovi, Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, The Roots, Suzanne Vega, Lucinda Williams, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Buffett, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and many, many more.
Atlas eventually settled in Montauk, where she lives with her husband Thomas, her two sons Cash and Levon and her daughter Tallulah.
Fireside Sessions kick-off at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35.
“It’s one of the highlights during the winter season,” Mitchell added.
