The Parrish Art Museum's beloved outdoor music series Jazz on the Terrace will return on Friday, June 22, and the first performer of the season will be highly acclaimed jazz drummer Eliot Zigmund.

Zigmund, a regularly featured performer on the New York and international jazz scenes, as well as on numerous recordings, will perform with his group, which includes Matt Garrison on saxophone, Allen Farnham on piano and Peter Brendel on bass.

"I am very pleased to welcome Eliot Zigmund —an extraordinary talent in the jazz world—to the Parrish," said Corinne Erni, Curator of Special Projects.

Zigmund, a highly regarded drummer and sessions musician, has been featured at top New York jazz clubs for decades. Praised for his "feather touch response" (Jazziz) and "fluid, relaxed urgency" (Musician), he is renowned among jazz enthusiasts as the drummer who backed up innovators like Chet Baker, Bill Evans, and Stan Getz, and was a session player for Neil Sedaka, Dionne Warwick, and The Pointer Sisters, among others.

A graduate of Mannes School of Musics and City College of New York, he relocated to California, playing with Ron McClure, Steve Swallow, Art Lande, Mike Nock, Mel Martin and Vince Guaraldi. In 1974, he returned to New York City and performed with Evans for four years, was featured on four of the pianists recordings including You Must Believe in Spring, as well as with Eddie Gómez, Bennie Wallace, Richard Beirach, Jim Hall, Fred Hersch, and Red Mitchell.

Zigmund has also regularly performed with Don Friedman until 1984 and then joined a trio with Michel Petrucciani until the late 1980s. He worked both as a leader in small ensembles and as a sideman with Gary Peacock (1980), Carl Barry (1982), Keith Greko (1985), Eiji Nakayama (1988), and Stefan Karlsson (1995). Zigmund has taught at William Paterson College and New York University.

Jazz on the Terrace at the Parrish, organized by Richie Siegler, features live, outdoor performances by accomplished jazz artists and offers scenic sunset views. Table Seating is reserved for Golden Pear Cafe patrons so guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to the Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley Foundation Event Lawn.

All summer concerts, sponsored by The Corcoran Group, BNB Bank, Sandy and Stephen Perlbinder, are free with Museum admission and take place rain or shine.

Admission is $12 and free for members, children and students.

Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill. For more information, visit parrishart.org or call 631-283-2118.
