This year for its music series, Summer Songs: The Great American Songbook...and Other Stories,
The Bridgehampton Museum
will welcome folksinger Caroline Doctorow
to kick-off the highly anticipated performances. The series will run for four Saturday evenings throughout the summer, with the first concert scheduled for May 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the museum's Archive Building.
Doctorow will perform with her acoustic band, The Ballad Makers, which includes two fiddlers who have a propensity for dueling during the performances. Gary Oleyar will play fiddle and guitar; Chris Tedesco
, fiddle; and Karl Allweier, upright bass. All three are nationally-touring musicians. Doctorow and the band will play some familiar tunes across musical genres - songs that they feel capture summer - as well as some of Doctorow's original music. Some artists covered will be The Everly Brothers, John Lennon
and Paul McCartney
, Glen Campbell, and Pete Seeger
"Having two phenomenal fiddlers 'dueling' during solos adds an amazing dimension to the music," shared Doctorow. "That's why for this series I'll have both my fiddlers with me. It's going to be fun!"
Each show promises to be slightly different with a selection of local "up-and-coming" songwriters to open the show and special musical guests to join Doctorow and her band onstage.
"This year I've been through many states, as far west as Oklahoma and as far south as North Carolina, as well as Connecticut and the Hudson Valley, where I play a lot," shared Doctorow. "So when this series fell into place with Julie Greene of The Bridgehampton Museum, I decided that it would be really great to stay close to home for some of this summer's gigs. This series is a sort of celebration of the 35 years I've been playing music professionally."
Doctorow's most recent album, "Dreaming in Vinyl," reached number two on the National Folk Radio Airplay chart. She lives in Bridgehampton with her family.
The series dates are all Saturday evenings: May 12, June 30, July 28 and August 25. Tickets are $20, at the door only.
