Gene Casey, frontman of the Lone Sharks, will be the latest local favorite to take the stage at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House as part of the Songwriters Share Concert Series, a series that gives back to the East End community. On Friday, May 5, at 8 p.m., Casey will enchant the audience during an intimate performance that supports East End Hospice.
"The majority of my shows take place in raucous settings: bars, clubs, and dance halls," shared Casey. "It is a welcomed change as a songwriter to perform in an intimate and acoustically rich room like the South Fork Congregation, where it is all about communication and direct contact."
For the past 25 years, Casey, along with the Lone Sharks, has been ruling the tri-state area's roots, and rock & roll scene with their exciting, high-energy shows. Throughout his lengthy career, Casey has shared the stage with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Wanda Jackson and other legends, as well as produced several CDs of beloved, catchy self-penned songs.
Songwriters Share Concert Series founder Nancy Remkus says attendees are in for an absolute treat. "Legendary singer/songwriter Gene Casey will light up the night at the Songwriters Share Concert Series," she shared. "A local favorite, Gene's warmth and songwriting skills draw people in as he makes everyone feel right at home. A toe-tapping community evening for a great cause."
Concertgoers will hear songs from Casey's recently released CD. "Nancy's series is proof that original music matters and I am honored to have been asked back this year and am looking forward to featuring brand new songs from my CD Guitar in the Rain,
And Casey's music hasn't just caught the attention of East Enders. A few of his songs have even been featured on the soundtracks of feature films, including The Tall Man
starring Jessica Biel Killing Season
starring Robert DeNiro, and Rob Reiner's Being Charlie
, as well as notable television shows like FX Network's Sons of Anarchy
and Cinemax's Outcast
The concert will reunite Casey with part-time North Fork resident Tricia Scotti. "Incidentally I will be accompanied by a guitarist/vocalist Tricia Scotti, who recently appeared with me and my band the Lone Sharks at the Westhampton Beach PAC," explained Casey.
East End Hospice, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit that provides care and comfort for terminally ill patients, their families and loved ones living on the North and South Forks of Long Island, is thrilled the musician selected them. "East End Hospice is honored and proud to be benefiting from such a wonderful community event," shared Priscilla A. Ruffin, President and CEO, East End Hospice.
Admission to the Songwriters Share Concert Series is $15.
Following Casey's concert, the series will wrap up with Dan Koontz, who will be playing for Therapeutic Riding Center of the East End on Friday, June 2nd.
