The Cowboy Junkies, a Canadian alternative country/blues/folk rock band, has announced select 2016 tour dates in support of their latest release, Notes Falling Slow. After an 18-month break from touring, the band is ready to get back out on the road to share their music with fans and that means a summer visit to the Hamptons.
“Playing live is the most important thing that we do as a band,” explained guitarist/songwriter, Michael Timmins. “It is the one constant in our career that connects that first gig thirty years ago to today.”
Margo Timmins, the band’s vocalist, formed the group in Toronto in 1985, with her siblings drummer Peter Timmins and Michael Timmins (guitarist and chief songwriter), as well as bassist Alan Anton.
Cowboy Junkies will be performing two sets each night of the tour, with the first focusing on material from their October 30th release, Notes Falling Slow. The second set will reach back, deep into the group’s extensive catalog of songs.
Notes Falling Slow (Latent Recordings) includes re-mastered versions of the three studio recordings that the band released in the 2000’s: Open (2001), One Soul Now (2004) and At The End Of Paths Taken (2007). A fourth disc, Notes Falling Slow, consisting of songs that were written during the making of the three studio albums, but never completed or released, rounds out the box set.
Additionally, the box set includes three of Cowboy Junkies’ most acclaimed releases. “If ghosts could sing, they’d probably sound like Margo Timmins…” People Magazine said about the release of Open, while the Chicago Tribune hailed One Soul Now as “The best work the band has done in years,” and the Associated Press labeled At The End of Paths Taken as “one of the bands best discs.”
Cowboy Junkies will perform in Amagansett at the Stephen Talkhouse on Thursday, July 14th. Tickets begin at $85.
Stephen Talkhouse is located at 161 Main Street in Amagansett. For more information about the Cowboy Junkies, visit www.cowboyjunkies.com. For tickets or more information about their Talkhouse performance, visit stephentalkhouse.com.
