The Sag Harbor Community Band is to open its summer concert season with Edvard Grieg’s ever-popular “Piano Concerto”, performed with piano soloist Joan Brill. Marches, songs, and other band favorites are also to be preformed at the outdoor event on July 9 at 8 p.m.
Grieg’s “Piano Concerto in A Minor” (1868), the only concerto he would write, has become one of the most popular pieces for piano solo and orchestra. The Sag Harbor Community Band will play a band transcription of the first movement with Joan Brill.
Brill has appeared as piano soloist with the Oceanside Symphony, the South Fork Chamber Orchestra, the Clearwater Symphony Orchestra, and the Tampa Bay Symphony Orchestra, and at Long Island University, SUNY Stony Brook, the Parrish Art Museum, and Guild Hall. Many audiences have heard her as pianist-harpsichordist with The Brill-Gaffney Trio.
The band which performs concerts every Tuesday evening from July 4th through the end of August at the American Legion is located on 26 Bay Street in Sag Harbor. Admission for this event is free, and the audience is encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
