New York City
- Micheal Castaldo
, well-known independent classical cross-over tenor, has released "Extravergine." The CD is melodic, festive and mostly in Italian and Latin! This is Castaldo's first Christmas release, and all I want for Christmas is for Castaldo to make this an annual tradition.
Castaldo's powerful operatic voice is clear, with subtle vocal nuances that will keep you listening intently to all 12 tracks.
"Extravergine," subtitled "Natale Nel Mediterraneo Orientale" (A Mediterranean Christmas) is a wonderful offering by Castaldo of sacred, liturgical carols sung in Italian and Latin. All the traditional favorties are here to be enjoyed, including "Oh Santa Notte" ("Oh Holy Night")," "E Nato Il Bamino Gesu" ("What Child Is This?"), "Batte Nel Cuore, Suona Natale ("Little Drummer Boy"), and my favorite "Gloria, In Excelsis Deo! - DayO" ("Angels We Have Heard On High
") where Castaldo has taken one of the most popular carols of all time and added such a fun but meaningful twist to it that he has only improved it.
Additionally, the CD includes Gioia Nel Mondo" ("Joy To The World"), "Puoi Sentire Quel' Che Sento Io?" ("Do You Hear What I Hear?")," "Astro Del Ciel" ("Silent Night"), as well as "Adeste Fideles" ("Oh Come All Ye Faithful") - each revealing tremendous orchestration and accompaniment for Castaldo's distinct voice.
Castaldo recorded the CD in New York, Canada, California, and Norway, and the recordings reflect the international sophistication he brings to music with his voice. He personally translated the well-known Polish carol, " "Jezus Malusuenki" now entitled, "Piccolo Gesu," as well as produced the CD, along with Stein B. Svendsen
, proving his considerable talents in front of and behind the microphone.
There are other delightful surprises Castaldo has included in this work - but you'll have to listen to the CD to discover them. Dedicated to his mother, "Extravergine" is a gift from an obviously talented, versatile and globally appealing artist.
The album artwork features a wreath woven of olive branches which not only reference the religious nature, and biblical significance of the holiday, but also reflects Castaldo's intention to bestow the gift of good music, thereby succeeding in gently reminding us to extend goodwill and good cheer towards each other this holiday season.
The CD recently peaked at #1on the Best Selling Hot New Releases in Sacred & Religious Music on Amazon
.com (pre-order), which is a rare feat for an independent artist - but certainly not this enormously talented man, as "Extravergine" will become a part of your annual favorite holiday music library.
Castaldo was recently nominated for two awards on the prestigious Classical Crossover UK website, www.classical-crossover.co.uk for the Indie Award, and for Top Male Artist. "micheal CASTALDO has released two albums in 2011 - "Olive You" and "Extravergine." He is the epitome of an indie artist - he works incredibly hard by touring, producing his own albums, writing his own material and arranging and translating any songs he does cover. Most importantly his music sounds unique and distinctive. " The winners will be announced on December 20, 2011.
