ARC Fine Art in Amagansett is closing out the season by hosting an End of Summer Celebration, featuring the gallery's final rotation of art, as well as a book signing for professional photographer Thom Gilbert's Waves: Pro Surfers and Their World.

"In addition to a selection of photographs from Thom Gilbert's Waves: Pro Surfers and Their World, ARC Fine Art is delighted to announce its final rotation of paintings, prints, photographs and sculpture by the following local artists: by Andrew Blauschild, Scott Bluedorn, Perry Burns, Tony Caramanico, Philippe Cheng, Caio Fonseca, Peter Dayton, Idoline Duke, Kathryn Lynch, Jane Parkes, Geoff Reinhard, Toni Ross, Bastienne Schmidt, Joni Sternbach, Donald Sultan and Mark Wilson," Adrienne Conzelman of ARC Fine Art shared. "Also on view are works by Frances Ashforth and Charlie Miesmer of Connecticut and Gustavo Ten Hoever of Uruguay."

The gathering will take place on Saturday, August 24 from 5 to 8 p.m.

For the final rotation, ARC Fine Art is displaying several pieces inspired by the area's undeniable allure. "The majority of the works on view reflect the undeniable lure of the sea and the striking natural topography of the East End," Conzelman noted. "The unique light and atmosphere of the region have drawn a steady stream of artists since the last quarter of the 19th century."

"William Merritt Chase who started the Shinnecock School of Plein-Air Painting is the direct inspiration of East Hampton artist Mark Wilson who creates witty contemporary interpretations of Chase's most revered landscape paintings," Conzelman added. "Several of the artists including Tony Caramanico, Peter Dayton, Joni Sternbach, Scott Bluedorn and Andrew Blauschild create works that reveal the undying fascination with the surf culture of the late 50s and 60s as well as the cult-like following of the sport today."

For Waves, which includes a foreword by Garrett McNamara, Gilbert followed surf royalty around the world - to Spain, New York, California, and Hawaii - for four years to record their quests in the sea. The photographer captured subjects' figures as they vanished into the waves, as well as documenting on land adventures. The intimate portraits include some of the world's top surfers, both emerging and legendary. Waves showcases 300 photographs, as well as Q&As and contributions from the book's subjects.

Gilbert is donating 25 percent of book proceeds from the evening to Valpo Surf Project, a youth mentorship organization that focuses on the poorest neighborhoods of Valparaíso, Chile, who is hosting a benefit concurrently at Stephen Talkhouse. More information on the fundraiser can be found here.
