Just in time for the official start of beach season, Lizzie Gill's artwork will be displayed in a solo exhibition titled, Summer Solstice
, at The Montauk Beach House
"The exhibition†Summer Solstice
†centers around that moment, on the longest day of the year, where you contemplate your past, present and future," Gill explained. "As an artist, I work with vintage materials and mixed media to create works that evoke nostalgia, but are also timeless."
Gill studied at the Studio Arts Center in Florence, Italy before attending Skidmore College in New York, where she received her Bachelor in Fine Arts. Her work explores themes of "retro America in a contemporary context."
The artist has had four solo exhibitions prior to Summer Solstice
. However, this exhibition conveys Gill's unique depiction of the Summer Solstice, in a colorful and modern style.
"Exhibiting these explorations of memory at the Montauk Beach House is the perfect fit, a temple to the leisure of the Summer Sun," she added.
Gill's images in the Summer Solstice
collection, portray the artist's personal innovations, "as the mid-century meets the millennial." The various works in the show display a sense of continuity through the women modeled in the shots.
The exhibition intends to leave its admirers with a sense of "will be", not "where we are."
, presented in collaboration with Roman Fine Art
, will be on display from Thursday, June 13 through Monday, July 1. An opening reception will be held on Friday, June 21.
