East Meets West, a two-day Hamptons exhibition that will encompass Sumi E, painting, mixed media, sculpture and photography, will premiere at Ashawagh Hall in East Hampton on Saturday, March 30

"I chose the title East Meets West because there are four Sumi E artists in the show," Ursula Thomas, who is curating the exhibition and is also featured, reflected. The New York City and East Hampton-based artist specializes in Sumi E, the ancient Eastern discipline of Asian brush painting. Thomas, whose works exemplify the "spirituality, rhythmic vitality, and disciplined control inherent in Eastern philosophy," is a recipient of three awards from The National Sumi-e Society of America.

"As well as these pieces, we are presenting an interesting mixture of disciplines; abstract painting, photography, assemblage and sculpture," she noted.

In addition to Thomas, featured artists will include Sharon Gajajiva, Bernice Faegenburg, Kathleen Colihan, Nadine Daskaloff, Robert Rosenbaum, Lisa Trivell, Teri Kennedy, Lance Corey, Veronica Mahoney Abigail Vogel, Aurelio Torres and Lynn Bermont.

Thomas has also enlisted Kennedy's artistic insight for the show's installation. "I asked for her assistance because I greatly admire her vision," Thomas added.

An Opening Reception will take place on Saturday, March 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. East Meets West will be on display on Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Ashawagh Hall is located at 780 Springs Fireplace Road in East Hampton. For more information, visit ashawagh-hall.org.
