The Parrish Art Museum is celebrating its 6th year in Water Mill with a weekend of public programs and events taking place Friday, November 9 through Sunday, November 11. The Museum's new exhibition Every Picture Tells a Story will be featured, as well as a screening of Spanish-language film with cocktail reception and bilingual gallery tours.

Additionally, there will be a special anniversary benefit party on Saturday featuring live music, cocktails, and the opportunity to mingle with artists.

On Sunday, the entire community is invited to a free day of activities - including art and writing projects, gallery tours, live music performances, and refreshments. Beginning Sunday, visitors may view Every Picture Tells a Story — drawn from the Museum's permanent collection of more than 3,000 works.

"We're here year round for the community with inspiring exhibitions, art classes for children and adults, and diverse public programs," said Museum Director Terrie Sultan. "But I'm always especially delighted when we open our doors for a free community day so that everyone can experience all the Parrish has to offer."

The anniversary programming begins on Friday, November 9 at 5:30 p.m. with a docent-led bilingual (Spanish/English) tour at 5:30 p.m., cocktail reception at 6 p.m., and film screening of Una Mujer Fantástica (A Fantastic Woman; Chile, 2017, 104 minutes, Spanish with English subtitles) at 7 p.m., followed by a Skype interview with the film's producer Juan de Dios. Una Mujer Fantástica, which won the 2018 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, tells the story of a Marina, a young trans woman, and her boyfriend Orlando, a businessman 20 years her senior. After Orlando becomes ill and dies, Marina is investigated and begins a struggle for the right to be herself. Una Mujer Fantástica is directed by Sebastián Lelio and stars Daniela Vega. The film was guest curated by the Organización Latino-Americana of Eastern Long Island (OLA) as part of their multi-venue film festival. The event is free with Museum admission ($12).

On Saturday, November 10, there will be a Benefit Cocktail Party. This festive evening will give guests an intimate look at Every Picture Tells a Story, as well as a chance to enjoy delicious hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, and live music. There will be lots of mingling with more than 30 Parrish collection artists. Tickets for the event are $200, and $150 for Parrish Members. At 5 p.m., ticket purchasers at the Parrish Members Supporter level ($500+) and above are invited for a champagne toast with David Salle, who will discuss his paintings based on the Sistine Chapel that have never been seen in the United States.

Community Day will take place on Sunday, November 11 from 12 to 3 p.m. The Parrish invites the entire community to join the 6th Anniversary celebration with free admission to the Museum all day. In the Lobby, Shinnecock Nation Member Shane Weeks will perform a traditional welcoming song, and Bridgehampton School's Tewa Marimba Ensemble will play a lively program. In the Lichtenstein Theater, Madolin Archer, Grisel Baltazar, Denise Silva Dennis, and Erin Simmons will lead art-making activities for the whole family and Jen Senft will lead a writing workshop in the galleries. Refreshments, including sandwich and cookie platters, are also part of this celebratory event for adults, children, and families.

The Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill. For more information, visit parrishart.org.
