In celebration of About Face, a collaboration between New York Academy of Art and Southampton Arts Center, co-curated by artist and musician Scott Avett of the folk-rock band, The Avett Brothers, and Academy President David Kratz, Avett will take the stage at Southampton Arts Center for a live acoustic set on Friday, August 25 at 6 p.m.
“The world knows Scott as an incredible musician, and with this exhibition, Scott has also shown himself to be an exceptional painter and curator,” explained Kratz.
The exhibition is a major survey of contemporary portraiture that showcases more than 70 works of sculpture, painting and photography, including pieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Will Cotton, Nicole Eisenman, John Alexander, Eric Fischl, Alex Katz, Damian Loeb, Alice Neel, Lucy Winton, Larry Rivers, Dana Schutz, Cindy Sherman, Laurie Simmons, Billy Sullivan, Mickalene Thomas, Dustin Yellin and more.
In addition to the intimate performance, Kratz and Avett will moderate a Curators and Artists Talk with Fischl, Alexander, and Winton.
“We’re very excited to be able to host him for this performance on Friday, as well as John Alexander, Eric Fischl and Lucy Winton at the artists’ talk,” Kratz added.
About Face will remain on view at Southampton Arts Center through Sunday, September 17.
