Roman Fine Art
in East Hampton is set to debut its first solo show with LA-based artist Knowledge Bennett
. Repeat Offender
will highlight an assemblage of the artist's extraordinary silkscreen paintings, including pieces from the Cojones, Marilyn, Share a Coke
and Mao Trump
"We are very excited to be working with Knowledge for his first solo exhibition in the Hamptons," shared Damien Roman, owner of Roman Fine Art. "I had been a fan of his work previously, but this past year has been really good to him regarding exposure and creatively, he has really hit his stride."
8 Gold from the Mao Trump series.
For Repeat Offender
, Bennett dissected and then revamped his subject - taking notable imagery and adding a unique twist that connects the subject to an intriguing moment in history. For his Marilyn Monroe
portrait, the bandana scarf that is wrapped around her head is a nod to the actress' participation and influence in the Civil Rights movement. Bennett's Cojones
series is a homage to those who have played a major part in monumental world change. Share a Coke
, which debuted in 2015, is a nostalgic celebration of the centennial of the iconic Coke bottle. Mao Trump
was also launched in 2015. The series explores the perils of power. One of the latest additions include President Donald Trump
's face superimposed onto the head of Chinese communist revolutionary Chairman Mao repeated across the canvas, as to suggest history might just be repeating the past.
"Knowledge and I met in Switzerland during Art Basel last year and we discovered that we not only shared a great affection for Pop Art and activism, we were also ideologically aligned," Roman explained. "While Repeat Offender
is not as political as his previous show, Orange is the New Black,
at its core there is social awareness belied by the colorful and playful pop imagery."
Bennett is known for using art as a sociological understanding of worldwide political and ideological stressors. "The still image is unapologetic by nature," shared Bennett. "It doesn't waiver, negotiate nor compromise. Now compound this with the repeated still and you only multiply its intent, purpose and effect."

"I hope that viewers are thrilled to discover this exciting new artistic voice and possibly learn something new in the process," added Roman.
will be on view Friday, February 24th through Sunday, March 19th. An opening reception will take place on Friday, February 24th from 6 to 8 p.m.
