Patrick McMullan, an American photographer and television personality, is known for his premiere
New York City nightlife photography. His photos focus on people, particularly A-list celebrities, fashion designers, models, actors, politicians, cultural icons, and the power elite. The Patrick McMullan Photo Collaboration is one of the largest topical photo archives of famous, living people in existence.
Tulla Booth Gallery in Sag Harbor will feature some of McMullan's very own photo collection in
Images from the '90's.
"Just the presence of Patrick McMullan and his camera at a gala, fund raiser, award diner, clubs, etc. ensures a success for the evening," explained Booth. "He is known for his friendly and offhanded manner."
McMullan's archive will be on display at the
Tulla Booth Gallery through Friday, November 10th. The exhibit will include images of the hottest public features from the 90's. McMullan was born in New York and raised in Huntington, Long Island. "Patrick worked as an amateur photographer beginning when he was in his 20s," noted gallery owner Tulla Booth. "Interest in photographing celebrities and famous people evolved with initial encouragement from
Andy Warhol while attending nightlife and events in Manhattan, and through their ongoing friendship until Warhol's untimely death in 1987." He was educated at New York University, pursuing business and "minored in
Studio 54" before pursing his photography passion.
"He not only is an important chronicler of the social scene for decades, he's also made his imprint on a number of other photographers," she shared. "Even myself when I did a short stint at the party scene."
You can find McMullan's work featured regularly in his weekly
New York Magazine column,
Party Lines. His other columns include:
Interview, Hamptons, and
Gotham, just to name a few. Impressively, McMullan also serves as a contributing editor at
Vanity Fair. You may also find McMullan's work while flipping through the pages of the
New York Times Magazine or
Vogue, as well as in international editions of
Harper's Bazaar, Details, Tatler, and
Out. McMullan's editorial works include recent stories in
Details and
Paper. Are you impressed yet?!
"Patrick's photo reportage of influential and interesting people--frequently in candid and amusing poses in their own comfortable elements makes him legend in his own time," Booth noted.
Andy Warhol remarked, "If you don't know Patrick McMullan, you ought to get out more!"
Follow Warhol's advice, get out, and go see McMullan's work at the Tulla Booth Gallery, open 12:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday through Monday.
