A new exhibition at the Riverhead Town Hall Gallery showcasing linocut-relief printmaker Debbie Tierney will open on Monday, March 11, and will run through June 5, 2013. Admission is free to the exhibition which is presented by East End Arts.
Tierney reflected on how her surroundings have affected her art saying, “Growing up on a tiny island in Ohio, in the middle of Lake Erie, infused in me a deep appreciation of the natural world that was my childhood. As an adult I carry the joy of memories made from time spent watching bees gather pollen, marveling at the perfection of a flower, shell, tree, mushroom, bird….” She continued, “Living on yet another, much larger island, I still find marvel in the beauty that surrounds us. The intention of my art is not to duplicate but, celebrate the beauty in how perfectly nature designs on its own. Linocut is a process where the design is carved into a piece of linoleum, originally used as flooring, then transferred to paper. This medium enables me to articulate the subject with simple lines while infusing movement and life into the subject.”
