Bruce Springsteen Documentary, “The Aeronauts,” “The Report” And More To Screen At Hamptons International Film Festival

With the 27th iteration less than a month away, Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) has revealed that the remaining spotlight films will include Tom Harper’s The Aeronauts, Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, Marc Meyers’ Human Capital (also screening as part of Views From Long Island), Scott Z. Burns’ The Report, François Girard’s The Song of Names, and Bruce Springsteen and Thom Zimny’s concert documentary Western Stars.

“We had a great time selecting these films and could not be more excited to share them with our audience,” said David Nugent, Artistic Director of HIFF. “We have some truly moving, fascinating and provocative titles to screen. These selections will thrill viewers and ignite thoughtful and passionate conversations throughout the Festival.”

The Aeronauts, which stars Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne, follows fearless balloon pilot Amelia Wren (Jones) who joins forces with innovative meteorologist James Glaisher (Redmayne) on a record breaking quest to both advance scientific discovery and soar higher than anyone before them.

Adapted from Paolo Virzì’s award-winning 2013 film and Stephen Amidon’s 2004 novel of the same name, Human Capital revolves around two families whose lives become despondently connected in the aftermath of a spur of the moment financial investment. The film stars Liev Schreiber, Peter Sarsgaard, Marisa Tomei, Maya Hawke, and Alex Wolff.

Political thriller The Report delves into U.S. Select Committee on Intelligence staffer Daniel Jones’ (Adam Driver) investigation into the CIA’s Detention and Interrogation Program, focusing on the use of “enhanced interrogation techniques” post-9/11.

The Song of Names takes a look at what happened to a young Polish musical prodigy who disappeared on the eve of what was to be his first public performance. Decades later, Martin (Tim Roth) decides to investigate what happened to his childhood friend.

Western Stars captures music legend Bruce Springsteen’s performance of tracks from his nineteenth studio album for a private audience at the musician’s New Jersey farmhouse. Springsteen, who is joined by his wife Patti Scialfa and a 30-piece orchestra, enchants the crowd with new songs and intimate anecdotes.

Views From Long Island section will feature the World Premieres of Treva Wurmfeld’s Conscience Point and
Tom Dolby’s The Artist’s WifeHuman Capital3 Days 2 NightsHacked and WWII, as well as Waterproof.

The Air, Land & Sea program will showcase Nikolaus Geyrhalter’s Earth, the World Premiere of Anthony Baxter’s Flint, and Brett Story’s The Hottest August.

“Our signature programs have become a hallmark of the annual film festival,” added Anne Chaisson, Executive Director of the Hamptons International Film Festival. “Highlighting the issues and causes that are most important to our community are of paramount importance to us. We are thrilled that audiences will get to hear from experts at post screening Q&A’s about the problems they face on a day-to-day basis.”

World Cinema Narrative will highlight Sarah Gavron’s Rocks, Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite, Wang Xiaoshuai’s So Long My Son, Ken Loach’s Sorry We Missed You, Nadav Lapid’s Synonyms, Kristina Grozeva’s The Father, Karim Aïnouz’s The Invisible Life of Euridice Gusmao, Marco Bellocchio’s The Traitor, Sandra Kogut’s Three Summers, Shannon Murphy’s Babyteeth, François Ozon’s By the Grace of God, Ladj Ly’s Les Miserables, Jessica Hausner’s Little Joe, Annabelle Attanasio’s Mickey and the Bear, and Céline Sciamma’s Portrait of a Lady on Fire.

In the World Cinema Documentary category, films will feature Matthew Miele’s Alan Pakula: Going For Truth, Eva Orner’s Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator, Tania Cypriano’s Born To Be, Alex Gibney’s Citizen K, Ben Steele’s In Memoriam, Luke Lorentzen’s Midnight Family, Jennifer Trainer’s Museum Town, Ric Burns’ Oliver Sacks: His Own Life, Oren Jacoby’s On Broadway, Elizabeth Sankey’s Romantic Comedy, Ed Perkins’ Tell Me Who I Am, Ebs Burnough’s The Capote Tapes, Lauren Greenfield’s The Kingmaker, and Agnès Varda’s Varda by Agnès.

The 27th annual Hamptons International Film Festival will take place Columbus Day Weekend (October 10 through October 14).
