“Beginning our 22nd annual film festival announcement with the highly acclaimed film from Tommy Lee Jones as our Centerpiece and having Hilary Swank be a part of our Signature program Conversation with… is the tip of what HIFF will showcase this year,” noted Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) Executive Director, Anne Chaisson.
Hilary Swank will walk the red carpet at “The Homesman” HIFF premiere on Sunday, October 12th and also take part in the Festival’s “A Conversation With…” program on Sunday, October 12th.
“The Homesman” is based on the novel by Pulitzer Prize-nominee Glendon Swarthout. As three women (Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, and Sonja Richter) living on the edge of the American frontier are driven to the brink of desperation, the pious, independent-minded Mary Bee Cuddy (Hilary Swank) takes on the task of saving them from their surroundings. While bringing the women by covered wagon to Iowa, Cuddy realizes the task is too daunting to take on alone, so she employs a rambunctious low-life drifter, George Biggs (Tommy Lee Jones), to join her. The unlikely group embark on a treacherous journey east, where a waiting minister and his wife (Meryl Streep) have offered to take the women in. Tommy Lee Jones directed the film, which will be released by Roadside Attractions and Saban Films on November 14, 2014.
The 22nd Annual Hamptons International Film Festival will be held over Columbus Day Weekend, from Thursday October 9, through Monday, October 13, 2014. Founders Passes and a number of packages are currently on sale.
