Spotlight films at the Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) include "Breathe In," "Capital," "Free Ride," "Her," "Labor Day," "Louder Than Words," "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom," and "The Past."

The Drake Doremus directed "Breathe In" will make its East Coast premiere at HIFF. In the film, music teacher Keith (Guy Pearce) is nostalgic for his past as a starving artist in the city. When his wife Megan (Amy Ryan) and his daughter determine the family should host a foreign exchange student Sophie (Felicity Jones), the British high school senior soon revitalizes an impulsiveness in Keith.

Oscar-winning director Costa-Gavras will screen his latest thriller "Capital" at HIFF. Taking place in the highly competitive world of high-stakes international banking, cutthroat corporate climber Marc Tourneuil is appointed the CEO of France's Phenix Bank, as an interim solution, or so they think. Tourneuil takes advantage of his new power with unscrupulous actions, resulting in dramatic financial consequence. The moves catch the cunning eye of Dittmar Rigule, an American hedge fund bigwig, who is a stake holder at Phenix.

"Free Ride" will also debut at HIFF. Written and directed by Shana Betz, the film is based on Betz's life story. "Free Ride" stars Anna Paquin as a single mother who moves to Florida with her daughters in search of a better life but gets drawn into the dicey drug-trade business.

"Her" is an original love story written and directed by Spike Jonze. Set in Los Angeles and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Scarlett Johansson, Olivia Wilde, Rooney Mara, and Amy Adams, the film shows the temperamental nature and gambles of intimacy in the modern world.

13-year-old Henry Wheeler, is battling to take the man of his house role in "Labor Day," written and directed by Jason Reitman. While on a back-to-school shopping excursion with his withdrawn mother Adele (Kate Winslet) they meet with Frank Chambers (Josh Brolin). The stranger, who is unapproachable yet clearly in need of assistance, is taken in by the struggling family.

Anthony Fabian's "Louder Than Words" will make its world premiere at HIFF. An idyllic suburban couple, John Fareri (David Duchovny) and his wife Brenda (Hope Davis), are deeply devastated by the sudden death of their young daughter. The flawed conditions of her hospital inspire the Fareri's to build a premier children's hospital, with the assistance of consultant Bruce Komiske (Timothy Hutton).

Idris Elba plays Nelson Mandela in "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom," an adaptation of the political leader's autobiography. It not only follows the many struggles Mandela overcame to become South Africa's first democratically elected leader but also the incredible love story between Mandela and his wife Winnie (Naomie Harris). The Justin Chadwick directed film will make its East Coast premiere at HIFF.

Family drama and secrets are vulnerable in "The Past," which is also making its East Coast Premiere. Ahmad (Ali Mosaffa) travels from Iran to France to finalize his divorce with his estranged wife Marie (Bérénice Bejo). The uncomfortable situation becomes tenser after Marie demands Ahmad stays with her and her live-in boyfriend Samir (Tahar Rahim), who also live with Samir's children from his own unsuccessful marriage. The drama is directed by Asghar Farhadi.

The 21st Annual Hamptons International Film Festival is Thursday, October 10, through Monday, October 14.
