The 21st
Hamptons International Film Festival (
HIFF) will open on Thursday, October 10th with "
Kill Your Darlings" starring
Daniel Radcliffe,
Elizabeth Olsen, and
Michael C. Hall. The film depicts the critical year that altered
Allen Ginsberg's life forever and ignited the flame to start his creative revolution. Director and Co-Writer John Krokidas as well as with actor
Dane DeHaan will attend the HIFF premiere.
"About Time," starring
Domhnall Gleeson,
Rachel McAdams and
Bill Nighy, is the Southampton Opening Night film on Friday, October 11th. At age 21, Tim Lake (Gleeson) learns a unique family ability passed down from his father (Nighy), he can travel back in time. During the romantic comedy, Lake attempts to master his time-tripping skills to woo the woman of his dreams.
The Festival's Centerpiece films are "Nebraska" and "
August: Osage County." "Nebraska" stars
Bruce Dern and
Will Forte. The film which was directed Alexander Payne, follows Woody Grant (Dern) and his estranged son David Grant (Forte) as they travel from Montana to Nebraska to collect a Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize.
"August: Osage County" stars
Meryl Streep,
Julia Roberts and Ewan McGregor. Streep plays Violet, who is struggling with cancer, a new-found drug dependency, and husband battling alcoholism. When her husband disappears, the family comes together for a search that ends with a dark discovery.
The final festival screening on Monday is "
12 Years a Slave," the captivating true story of one man's fight for survival and freedom during pre-Civil War United States. Solomon Northup (
Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is kidnapped and sold into slavery. The film shows the barbarism and unexpected kindnesses Northup faces in his struggle to stay alive. During the 12th year, he meets a Canadian abolitionist (
Brad Pitt) who alters the course of Northup's journey.
"Each of these 3 films presents an insightful look at America, both contemporaneously and historically, as well as urban and rural. These artists have each made unique films that we are so proud to share with our audiences in the Hamptons," noted
David Nugent, HIFF Artistic Director.
The 21st Annual Hamptons International Film Festival is Thursday, October 10, through Monday, October 14.
