Southampton Arts & Culture Committee (SHACC) is presenting its Inaugural Day Tour, SHACC on the Road, on Saturday, September 29.

Sponsored by the Southampton Town Board, the expedition - which is free and open to the public, was created to spark dialogue and create memorable experiences during the "art & culture-themed" day bus trip. The debut SHACC on the Road was curated by Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman and will include stops at The Watermill Center in Water Mill and Madoo Conservancy in Sagaponack.

At 10 a.m., the tour will depart from the Southampton Town Hall parking lot, making its way to The Watermill Center where Director and SHACC founding member Elka Rifkin will provide an intimate personal tour of the grounds, the venue and featured works. "The Watermill Center is thrilled to be part of this inaugural tour of SHACC on the Road," Rifkin shared.

The Watermill Center was founded by avant-garde visionary and theater director Robert Wilson in 1992. The Center serves as an interdisciplinary workshop for the arts and humanities, welcoming artists from across the globe.

Next, participants will head to the Madoo Conservancy where they can revel in the spectacular gardens as they nosh on a brown bag lunch. After lunch, Madoo Director Alejandro Saralegui will offer a personal tour of the gorgeous grounds. "We're delighted to be hosting the TKTK group from Southampton," Saralegui noted. "Our major restoration of the ca. 1740 summer house was partially funded by a historic façade easement from the Community Preservation Fund, so it's always a pleasure to have more people see the work that has been accomplished."

Artist, gardener, and writer Robert Dash founded Madoo, a constantly evolving, horticulturally varied garden with historic buildings, in 1967. Committed to the study, preservation, and enrichment of Madoo, the Sagaponack gem pays homage to the artistic vision of its founder by engaging, educating, and inspiring its visitors with its dynamic, entirely organic site.

SHACC on the Road will arrive at Southampton Town Hall by 4 p.m.

SHACC's mission "is to advise the Town of Southampton on promoting greater exposure and participation in arts and culture-related activities through creative collaboration." The Committee was founded in 2017.

Seating is limited and RSVPing in advance is required.

Southampton Town Hall is located at 116 Hampton Road in Southampton. To RSVP, email Southampton Town Council Liaison Tommy John Schiavoni at tjschiavoni@southamptontownny.gov.
