The Victor D'Amico Institute of Art and The Art Barge invite all to "Barge-In" during a week-long event that will run this upcoming Independence Day week.

The programming encourages those to visit the Barge Gallery, enjoy these creative spaces and the inspiring natural surroundings of the Art Barge, learn more about the founders and history of the organization, make their own art, and take advantage of open houses, public programs and art classes.

"This summer season began with an invitation for all to take a look... take a class," explained Christopher Kohan, President of The Victor D'Amico Institute of Art. "During this holiday week, Barge-In at The Art Barge offers opportunities to do just that: visit the new exhibition, enjoy the inspiring building and natural surroundings, and learn the key concepts that drove our founders Mabel and Victor D'Amico's life and practice through a series of free art classes open to any level of ability."

The week will kick-off on Sunday, July 1 with an opening reception from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., highlighting a new exhibition, The Finder's Eye.

A special series, "Mabel and Victor D'Amico: What is Creative Education?" will run Monday, July 2 through Friday, July 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. Led by teaching and museum education researcher Sara Torres Vega, each class will be devoted to learning and understanding the philosophies and processes of the D'Amico's through various practical art making experiences.

"These classes on 'What is Creative Education?' will allow people to rediscover their greatest endowment: the power to create," added Instructor and D'Amico researcher Sara Torres.

The classes are free and open to the public. Any level of ability is welcome. Participants can register for the whole week or daily sessions.

The Art Barge is located at 110 Napeague Meadow Road in Amagansett. For more information or to register, visit theartbarge.org or call 631-267-3172.
