Saturday, March 25 sparks the return of LIVE from SAC with a lively and energetic concert featuring Nilson Matta’s Brazilian Voyage Trio, presented with The Jam Session.
“Nilson Matta is known around the world as one of the top jazz bassists,” shared Amy Kirwin, Director of Programs at Southampton Arts Center. “Southampton Arts Center is incredibly honored to be able to present him along with his fellow musicians for a night of Brazilian jazz, which will be a very special treat for all who attend.”
Matta studied at Federal University in Rio de Janiero and has been a true innovator of playing Brazilian Jazz on acoustic bass. He has been consistently praised for his playing and is widely considered one of the greatest bassists in the world. Once he moved to New York City, he began collaborating with famous musicians such as Yo Yo Ma, Joe Henerson, Paul Winter, Nancy Wilson, Herbie Mann, Don Pullen, Trio da Paz and so many more. In 2017, he was even nominated for a Grammy.
Matta’s Brazilian Voyage has been performed all over the world. The special performance will feature Oriente Lopez on the piano and Mauricio Zottarelli on drums.
“The Trio will perform Nilson’s originals mixed with Brazilian song book standards,” noted Claes Brondal of The Jam Session. “It will literally take the audience on an exciting Brazilian Voyage.”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for this exciting event and, as per usual, Southampton’s Union Cantina will provide the evening’s refreshments.
Admission to LIVE from SAC: Nilson Matta’s Brazilian Voyage Trio is $15 for adults and $5 for children.
