In honor of her new publication, “April Gornik: Drawings,” artist April Gornik will be at the Parrish Art Museum for an outdoor reception and book signing on the Mildred C. Brinn Terrace on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. Fresh coffee and breakfast pastries will be offered to guests, free of charge.
The hardcover book is 232 pages and can be purchased at the signing or in advance during online registration for the event for $40.
“April Gornik: Drawings” is a far-reaching collection of charcoal drawings done by Gornik since 1984. Lush and comprehensive in both the scale and subject, these landscapes signify both the wild and the sophisticated. Additional contributions to the book include essays by actor and musician Steve Martin, and artist Archie Rand, an interview with Gornik by Lawrence Weschler about her approach to her studio practice, a CD of For April, a work for piano and cello by composer Bruce Wolosoff and inspired by one of Gornik’s drawings.
April Gornik was the focus of a solo show at the Parrish Art Museum in 1988 and six works by Gornik are showcased in the Parrish’s permanent collection.
Tickets to the book signing are included in admission to the Museum, which is $10, and free for members, children and students.
The Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill. For more information, call 631-283-2118 or visit parrishart.org.
