Cavett's Cove, the Montauk estate owned by talk show host Dick Cavett and his wife Martha Rogers Cavett, is back on the market.

Listed for $62 million last year, the 20-acre oceanfront property is now available for $48.5 million. The expansive approximately 7,000 square-foot home boasts six-bedroom, five-bath and a private 900-foot beach.

"An incomparable property that comes along every other generation, offering a rare combination of 20 acres along 900-ft of pristine oceanfront with a completely rebuilt historic and three-story Stanford White designed house, pool, half-acre pond, gardens and miles of walking or riding path surrounded by 190 acres of parkland," noted Corcoran's Gary DePersia, who is representing the property alongside Karen Kelley. "With only three owners in just over 135 years, Cavett's Cove awaits that discerning someone to begin writing their own chapter in Montauk's history."

Of the seven homes constructed in the early 1880s that became part of the Montauk Association, later known as the Seven Sisters, it is the easternmost. The three-story house was originally designed by McKim, Mead & White.

In 1997, a fire tore through the abode leaving just the chimney standing. After loosing years worth of family heirlooms and antiques in the tragic accident, Cavett and his late wife Carrie Nye pledged to create an exact replica of their beloved home, not permitting any modernizations. As the plans were lost, the couple used photographs, their own memories and even unusual methods such as using the height of their pet dogs from a picture of it hopping up on a windowsill as a measuring reference.

That extraordinary journey was featured in a 2003 documentary, From the Ashes: The Life and Times of Tick Hall.

However, with the new structure Cavett did decide to upgrade the grounds with a pond and a pool that cannot be seen from the residence.

Back in 2008, Cavett sold 77 acres located adjacent to the property for $18 million. That land became public parkland.

Cavett's Cove has welcomed an impressive roster of guests, including Muhammad Ali, Sir Laurence Olivier, Tennessee Williams, Alec Baldwin and Woody Allen.
