A sea of green could be found throughout the halls of Aquebogue Elementary School in the Riverhead Central School District in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Donning their Irish best, students took part in fun activities like fashioning leprechaun traps and hats.

On Saturday afternoon, Guild Hall in East Hampton celebrated its 90th Anniversary with the opening of the 83rd Artists Member Exhibition. Once again, over 400 Artists participated. The Show will run until April 10th, with a maximum of 50 masked visitors at a time.

On Saturday afternoon at Springs Community Church, guests had the opportunity to sample superb house chili from 20 top local restaurants. Adapting to current pandemic regulations, pick up was via drive through. There was over 290 online orders, which included two servings of chili, a sourdough baguette, and a reusable ceramic mug. All proceeds benefited the Springs Food Pantry and Share the Harvest Farm.

After 81 days in Atlantic Marine Conservation Society's (AMSEAS) critical care facility, 11 critically endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtles are getting a second chance at life. The rehabilitated sea turtles were transported to Gabreski Airport by AMSEAS biologists for a flight, coordinated by Turtles Fly Too, to Canaveral National Seashore in Florida where they will be released back into the ocean.

East Hampton's LongHouse Reserve held its Winter Benefit, A Love Song to Jack, on February 14. The Valentine’s Day virtual event celebrated LongHouse’s beloved founder Jack Lenor Larsen, who recently left this world at 93. The evening began with a heartfelt rendition of "It Had To Be You" from JoyJanJones and included music from Laurie Anderson, Nico Muhly, G.E. Smith and Taylor Barton, and Rufus Wainwright. The evening honored Shirin Neshat and Paul Goldberger. Loving Couple’ Honorary Chairs included Bill T. Jones and Bjorn Amelan, Eric Fischl and April Gornik, and Rufus Wainwright and Jörn Weisbrodt.

Now in its 12th year, the goal of P.S. I Love You Day is to raise awareness about bullying and suicide - and also promote kindness. Hampton Bays Middle Schoolers took part in a variety of activities, such as engaging in classroom discussions and helping design an “I am” wall featuring positive messages.

East Hampton Village hosted its first Historic Scavenger Hunt. East Hampton Village Historian Hugh King approved, and posed at, each secret location before the event. The winners were the team of Laura Molinari, Jon Tarbet, Jr. and Family.

This was the big weekend: the opening of Guild Hall's "Student Art Festival 2021: Past-Present-Future." Proud Kindergarten though Grade 12 students from our East End schools exhibited their visions of "our shared past and an imagined future." Most of the artwork was created virtually. The Exhibition Curators include Guild Hall's Casey Dalene and Anthony Madonna. A surprise visitor was Amy Kirwin, who will become Guild Hall's Chief Creative Officer on February 1st.

Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, Inc. (ARF) once again hosted a Pet Food Pantry donation and pick up at the ARF Adoption Center in East Hampton. The next donation and pick up will take place on Saturday, February 20. Donations of unopened bags of cat and dog food (both wet and dry) and treats, as well as cat food is greatly needed.

To provide local children with some holiday cheer, members of Riverhead High School’s student government once again sponsored an Angel Tree project. The project yielded Target gift cards for every child on the Angel Tree list, along with gifts through the generosity of the district’s pupil personnel services department, students and staff, as well as Joe Hartmann and the Riverhead Fire Department, who donated items and surprised the receiving families with deliveries via a fire truck complete with Santa.
