The rain did not go away despite the prayers of over 180 golfers, organizers, and sponsors of the eighth annual
Hamptons Golf Classic at
Hampton Hills Golf & Country Club on June 25, 2012. The deluge flooded the course as golfers waited and hoped in vain that the skies would clear and they would get in a round. The newly created lake on the fairway signaled the end of that pipe dream late in the morning.

All present were good sports about the weather and enjoyed a 'modified' event which began with breakfast and ended with lunch thanks to
Zev Norotsky of Get There PR and Stanley Pine of Hampton Hills. In the middle was a hospitality event instead of golf with Zino Premium Cigars in the 'smoking lounge,' Miller64, Perrier-Jouët Champagne, and delicious Vine Smoothie cocktails that
NY Giants former cornerback, and father of "
American Idol" star
Jordin Sparks, Phillippi Sparks remarked upon to his host for the day, honoree
Lawrence Citarelli Jr., saying he was, "Brining a bottle back for Jordin!"
The day was not a total loss in fact it was a gain of over $20,000 to this year's beneficiary the International Rescue Committee on behalf of
charitybuzz.com. Additionally the charity will receive proceeds from the silent auction of sports collectibles that kept guests engaged during the storms.
While disappointed Zev is always planning ahead - the date for next years' event is set for June 24, 2013 (and yes, there will be a rain date) - and managed to rally the troops with quite a parting shot, "On behalf of Hampton Hills' Stanley Pine and myself all attendees were issued a voucher to play a round of golf with a guest at a date of their choosing later this summer." Not a bad way to end a very rainy Monday.
