Southampton - Year after year the Southampton Youth Services (SYS) plans a festival that gives back to the kids, and this year SYS held their Fourth Annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, October 2. The circus of entertainment left children looking forward to another fun-filled fall day next year.

"A few years ago, it started with some of the parents in the community, they wanted to do something big for the families, for the kids," relayed Joy Pariz, Program Director of SYS. "We're a safe place to play, dream, grow and learn, and I feel like Family Fun Day really embodies a lot of that."

Walking through the Recreation Center reminded the children of walking under the big top. The gymnasium was filled with brightly colored inflatables that stood tall like skyscrapers. Hampton Balloon supplied the giant obstacle course, rock climbing wall, bouncy castles, the giant slide and the rest of the inflatables that added to the amusement. An ice-cream truck provided some sweet treats outside along with a delicious family style cookout. Kids could decorate cookies, get air brush tattoos, do the limbo and even learn some karate while listening to the tunes of DJ Double S. The Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle gave families something to look forward to before heading out the door.

"I just heard from another mother that her son was so excited to get here this morning, since he's been here every year," said Sharon Wood, Marketing Director at SYS. "It's a tradition for him so he knows what to expect."

The proceeds from Family Fun Day go directly to the SYS scholarship fund, which gives assistance to families in the community that need extra help to enroll in children in after school programs. One of the major contributors this year was Southampton Bath and Tennis, helping to make the event such an on-going success, as well as nine other sponsors that pitched in a helping hand.

"That's what I'd like people to remember when they walk out, Man, that was such a fun day," exclaimed Pariz. " I want to go back next year."
