The 18th annual
New York Center for Children (NYCC) Gala was held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at the New York home of
Kate and Andy Spade. Gathering more than one hundred donors, volunteers and friends at her New York residence, the event was the most successful NYCC Anniversary Celebration since
Kate Spade became Co-Chair of the organization in 2006.
The New York Center for Children is a leading medical center in healing, preventing and educating children and families who have experienced abuse in
New York City.
"NYCC has been one of the causes I have been most devoted to. The center has consistently provided an unmatched level of expertise, care and comfort to so many children and families that have gone through abuse crises in New York City," Kate Spade stated in her welcome toast. "We personally get involved with the team, the children and families. The dedication shown by all has been inspiring to us."
The Kate Spade reception followed the Sunset on the Hudson, a rooftop fundraiser organized by the NYCC Junior Committee, a group of young, enthusiastic New Yorkers dedicated to ending child abuse. The super successful Sunset on the Hudson event welcomed
Martha Stewart and
Pilar Guzman of
Martha Stewart Living.
The New York Center for Children provides onsite medical facilities and is designed to be a cheerful sanctuary for the children, complete with a playroom, toys and colorful hand-painted murals. The NYCC team consists of ten full-time members, including pediatricians, clinical social workers and psychologists. The staff provides therapy, medical exams, crisis intervention and consultation free of charge for child victims and their families. NYCC holds an annual conference for training and supporting professionals who work to prevent child abuse.
